State owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina (Pesero) and French firm Total SA are given by the government until next week to make a final decision on ownership composition in the Mahakam block after the current contract expires in 2017.

?Last week, we talked with Pertamina. This week, we are going to talk with Total. Next week, we shall sit together with Pertamina and Total, during which we expect to hear their final decision (on share composition),? Sudirman said on Monday.

He envisaged Japanese firm INPEX Corp., Total?s current partner in the block, will remain a partner in the block since it is ?in the same package with Total?. Total and INPEX now have equal shares in Mahakam.

Total and INPEX?s contract on the block expires on Dec. 31, 2017. The government has decided to transfer the block to Pertamina after the expiry of the contract but it has sent signals to Pertamina that it would be happy if the state firm will take Total and INPEX as partners in the block to maintain the block?s production.
