State-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina plans to increase LPG import this year to 3.6 million tons from 3 million tons last year to meet growing demand, Bisnis Indonesia reported Tuesday.

The paper quoted Senior Vice President for Non Fuel Marketing at Pertamina, Taryono as saying that consumption of subsidized LPG this year is projected to increase by 5 percent to 5.7 million tons from 5 million tons last year.

Import accounts for about 55 percent of the total consumption, the paper said.

Consumption of non-subsidized LPG this year is estimated to remain at around 1.2 million tons.

Meanwhile, Kontan quoted Pertamina Marketing Director Ahmad Bambang as saying that the company has opened tender for the construction of an LPG storage tank in Tanjung Sekong, Banten.

The 88,000-ton capacity storage facility, which is expected to be completed in 2017, will help improve the supply of LPG at home. (*)
