State owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina has started using LNG as the fuel for transportation sector and households, in a move expected to reduce subsidized fuel consumption and state subsidy.

Subsidiary PT Badak NGL on Monday tested the fuel on company operational vehicles, and on three units of household stove, as witnessed by Pertamina President Director Karen Agustiawan through a video conference.

?Pertamina is committed to support the development of the required infrastructure for the success of this program,? she said.

In July, Daniel Purba, Pertamina Vice President for Gas Technology and Power Plant, said that LNG can be used as fuel for large capacity vehicles such as being applied in the US. He said that for now LNG is only economically feasible to be used in large capacity vehicles such as large trucks or large buses in public transportation sector.
