The West Java unit of state oil and gas firm Pertamina has made progress in drilling an exploration well at Karang Baru oil field in Indramayu Regency, the unit?s general manager Subarkah Kustowo told Petromindo.Com Wednesday.

Drilling on the Karang Baru ?1 well has reached 2,950 meters and is planned to reach 3,150 meters, Subarkah said.

The Karang Baru-1 well, which was spudded in late September, is estimated to reach the total depth of target in 92 workdays.

?The projects could lead to the discovery of more oil and gas at Karang Baru,? Subarkah said, adding that the unit is also continuing the 2D seismic project on that field.

Pertamina has said that reserves on the field could reach 35 million barrels of oil.

West Java unit of Pertamina had set a target to 19,000 barrels per day (BPD) of oil and 450-500 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) of gas in 2004. Meanwhile, the unit produced around 11,375 BPD of oil and 371,303 MMCFD of gas last year. (godang)
