State owned oil and gas company Pertamina will begin to sell environmentally friendly biodiesel fuel next month as part of its program to gradually reduce the use of fossil-based diesel fuel.

Pertamina's marketing and trading Director Ahmad Faisal said that the company would in the first stage sell two biodiesel products, B10 and B5 in certain gasoline stations in Jakarta beginning next month.

"B10 will contain 90 percent regular diesel fuel and 10 percent biodiesel, while B5 will contain five percent biodiesel," he said, saying that the new fuel will be sold between Rp 4,800 and Rp 5,000 per litter.

According to him, Pertamina will cooperate with the state research and technology agency BPPT which at present operates a biodiesel plant with a capacity of 1.5 tons a day in the production of biodiesel. (Godang)
