State oil and gas company PT Pertamina is in talks to import LNG from Australia to meet growing demand in Indonesia.

Senior VP Gas and Power and Renewable Johardi Angga Kusumah told Petromindo.Com that Pertamina is in talks with Woodside Energy to buy 500,000 tons of LNG annually starting 2021.

He did not give further detail.

Earlier in 2014 Pertamina has signed deal to import 1.52 MTPA of LNG from US firms Cheniere Energy under 20-year contract starting 2019 and in 2017 with Exxon Mobil Corp to import 1 MTPA starting 2025 also under 20-year contract.

Johardi said that Pertamina is still calculating its LNG import requirement and may look to buy more volume from overseas LNG producers.
