PT Wahana Petranusa (WP) has cooperated with state oil and gas firm Pertamina to increase its oil and gas production capacity by using vibro seismic in its exploration activities.
WP chairman Irzal Chaniago said his company and Pertamina signed a joint study agreement (JSA) last April.
"Based on the JSA Pertamina has relinquished three of its oil and gas fields as a pilot project for the vibro seismic technology," Irzal said.
The three fields are those in Ampel (West Java), Jambi and Prabumulih in South Sumatra.
Irzal said that data collection in the three fields had started since May, and it should be completed by September.
"We expect that by the end of this year, the vibro seismic technology could be applied in the three fields, and the results could be seen in year 2001," he said.
The vibro seismic technology, developed by VNIIGAZ, an oil and gas technology research institute in Russia, is one of available technologies to enhance crude and gas production level from old oil wells.
According to Vladimir N. Bolenenko of VNIIGAZ, vibro seismic has been applied in an old Pagar field owned by PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia.
From the project in Pagar, vibro seismic could enhance production level in Pagar by 53 percent, from 3,100 barrels per day to 4,740 barrels per day.
WP is the sole proprietor of vibro seismic technology in Indonesia. (*)
