PetroChina East Java is expanding its exploration activities in its concession areas in four regencies in East Java in a bid to increase the company’s crude oil production, which has started to decline in the past several years, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Monday.

The company’s senior executive Kirana said in Surabaya last week that PetroChina had, for example, drilled two more oil wells in Sukowati regency as part of the expansion program.

The operation of the two oil wells in Sukowati, Bojonegoro regency, beginning next month is expected to increase the company’s crude oil production to 12,200 barrels of crude oil per day.

Kirana said that the production of the company’s 19 wells in the Mudi field in Tuban regency had naturally declined to 6,200 barrels per day at present from about 12,000 barrels per day due to the depletion of the oil reserves.

By operating two more oil wells in the Sukowati field, the company would be able to increase its crude oil production to 12,200 barrels per day, he said. (*)
