PetroChina has no plan to buy Indonesian oil, gas assets: Report

Chinese oil gas firm PetroChina Co. has not made a decision to acquire oil and gas assets in Indonesia, a company official told Dow Jones Newswires Thursday.

Responding to a recent media report that PetroChina is possibly making a new acquisition in Indonesia, Mao Zefeng, assistant secretary to PetroChina's board of directors, said the company is currently reviewing possible oil investment opportunities worldwide.

"At this moment, no decision, plan or timeframe for any specific project has been made," he said.

He said PetroChina's corporate strategy is that while it seeks to secure and expand its leading position in the domestic market, it proactively and prudently looks for opportunities to develop the overseas market.

In April this year, PetroChina acquired stakes in six oil and gas fields in Indonesia from Devon Energy Corp. for US$216 million, its first such deal outside of China, to help satisfy China's rapidly growing energy demands. (*)
