PetroChina makes oil discovery in Jambi

Chinese oil giant PetroChina said it had discovered oil in its recent exploration in Jabung PSC onshore Jambi.

Budi Setiadi, the company?s Indonesian unit senior official told Petromindo.Com on Thursday the that the Marmo-1 exploration well, which was drilled within the north Betara area, flowed 2,484 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 0.35 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) of gas during test.

The well was spudded in August 2008.

Budi said the discovery will add production from Jabung block, which currently stood around 56,000 BOEPD.

Budi said that the discovery could be brought into production in 2009 or early 2010 as the well was located near production facilities.

The well was part of the seven-well drilling program the company planned in the block for this year.

PetroChina is the operator of the Jabung block with 27.85715 percent interest. Other interest holders are: Petronas Carigali (27.85715 percent), PP Oil&Gas (Indonesia-Jabung) Ltd (30 percent) and PT.Pertamina (Persero) (14.28570 percent). (alex/godang)
