PetroChina owes government $3.6 million

Upstream oil and gas authority BPMIGAS said on Thursday that Chinese oil company PetroChina owes the government US$3.6 million as payment deferral for the government?s shares of crude production from two oil blocks operated with the company.

BPMIGAS deputy chairman Eddy Poerwanto said BPMIGAS had asked for PetroChina to settle the arrears but thus far the government has not yet received any payment.

A BPMIGAS source said PetroChina still has payment arrears of$2.5 million for the 2004 crude produced from Tuban JOB, East Java and $1.1 million from Salawati JOB, Papua.

The source said that the arrears have long overdue and should have been settled early 2005.

PetroChina official Maryke Pulunggono when contacted declined to confirm the matter saying and said she was not aware about the problem. (godang)
