PetroChina?s generator explodes, injuring three workers

A power generator at Sukowati #7 well in Ngampel, Kapas district, Bojonegoro, East Java owned by the Pertamina-PetroChina East Java Joint Operating Body (JOB) exploded on Monday morning, injuring at least three workers, Detik.com reported on Monday.

The three victims are Ucok, who suffered minor injury, Idrus, who had his hand burnt and Jebat, who was wounded in the head. They were immediately admitted to the Dr Sosodoro Jatikusumo Hospital in Bojonegoro for medical treatment.

Police still investigates whether the explosion was caused by technical failure or human error, according to the website.

PetroChina?s Government and Public Relations Manager, Maryke P. Yustika, confirmed the incident, but told Petromindo.com that operational activities at the well still continued.

Oil and gas authority BPMIGAS's spokesman Amir Hamzah said the incident occured at 7.15 a.m. after the generator was "troubled" by a torrent of drilling mud from connection line.

"When the incident occured, drilling was carried at the depth of 6,300 feet of the target of 7,164 feet," he said. (Godang)
