PetroChina East Java has started to carry out drilling works at the Sukowati 5 and 6 oil wells in Bojonegoro regency, East Java since June, Investor Daily reported Tuesday. The drilling work is aimed at boosting oil production to 13,000 bpd from the current 8,000 bpd.

The drilling work is expected to last for three months. PetroChina has installed fences around the Sukowati wells to help reduce noise level during drilling works. The move came following warning from the Bojonegoro administration.

?Noise detection measures 100 meters from the center of the drilling work shows a level of 56.6 decibel, which is above the 55 decibel limit. That?s why fences are installed around the wells,? Sumarsono of the Bojonegoro administration as quoted by Antara.

PetroChina in a joint venture with state oil and gas company Pertamina to operates the Sukowati field in the regency. The field started operation in August 2004 with an output of 7.000 barrels per day. (*)
