PetroChina strikes gas at Salawati Basin PSC: Report

PetroChina has recently discovered natural gas through the North Arar-1 exploration well at its Salawati Basin PSC in Papua, IHS Energy reported.
The report said the well, which is located about 2.3km northwest of the 1977 Arar 1 discovery well, was drilled to a total depth at 2,855m and flowed natural gas at the rate of 5.26 million cubic feet per day.
The report also said PetroChina is currently drilling the Arar 4 delineation well and Klagele 1 wildcat as part of its 2005/2006 drilling program on the block.
Earlier wells drilling in the program include delineation Wakamuk 3 (dry) and wildcats Klais 1 (dry) and Klawati 1 (testing).
PetroChina operates Salawati Basin with 30 percent interest, while state-owned oil and gas PT Pertamina, Pearl Oil, and Lundin Petroleum hold 10 percent, 34.064 percent, and 25.936 percent, respectively.(*)
