PetroChina suspends five wells due to flood

Chinese oil and gas company PetroChina temporarily stopped production and exploration activities at five wells in the Tuban block, East Java due to flood, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Wednesday.

Dody Hidayat, Operation Deputy at oil and gas upstream authority BPMIGAS, was quoted as saying on Tuesday that the Chinese firm suspended production four production wells in Mudi field and one exploration well in Sukowati field.

?Based on the information that we have received, operation at four wells at Mudi field have been suspended since Dec. 30,? Dody said.

The Mudi field has an oil production capacity of 7,698 barrels per day (bpd). The suspension caused the field?s production to drop by 690 bpd.

According to Dody, while the flood had forced PetroChina to stop exploration activities at Sukowati 7 well, the agency had yet to get a detailed report on the impact of the flood on Sukowati?s production activities.The water level of Java?s largest river Bengawan Solo has increased due to continued rains, causing floods in many parts of Java.
