PetroChina International Jabung Ltd will develop two more gas fields in the company's gas block in Jabung, Jambi, to more than double its gas production to 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day from about 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day at present, Bisnis Indonesia reported Monday.

The company's senior field superintendent Soleman Jalamani said in Jakarta last week that the company was still waiting for the approval of Minister of Forestry to begin the exploration works at the two wells in the South West Batara field.

"We hope will receive the approval within the next three months," he said, adding that all the necessary exploration equipment had been relocated to the South West Batara field for the exploration of the new wells.

At present, Petrochina operates 67 gas wells in the oil block, with a total production of about 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent. About 70 percent of the total production are exported to Singapore through the Jambi-Batam-Singapore gas pipeline network.

PetroChina operates a number of gas blocks in Indonesia with total production of about 82,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

PetroChina and Petronas each own 45 percent of the Jabung field, with state oil and gas company Pertamina holding the remaining 10 percent. The block is currently producing gas, liquids and LPG. (*)
