"We hope that all the remaining gas from the 'gas kick' can be all burned today so that we could resume drilling activities tomorrow (Tuesday)," field manager of the Joint Operation Body (JOB) Pertamina-PetroChina, Victory Surya Kirana told Investor Daily Sunday.
He said that the company had covered all the sources of the gas blowout with cement or hard mud in order to totally stop the gas kick. "Once we are done, we will be able to continue drilling activities on Tuesday," he added.
According to him, the company would further carry out drilling activities at the Sukowati field in order to add the depth of the well by another 2,100 feet from the current 6,143 feet.
Victory hoped that the drilling activities could be completed within next three months and to begin production with an initial output of between 2,000 barrels and 3,000 barrels per day.
According to him, PetroChina has successfully drilled four wells with the production having been started at the first, second and fourth wells.
"The third well has not yet begun production," he said, adding that the company hoped to drill six wells until the end of this year and to produce crude oil at capacity of about 15,000 barrels per day by the year end. (*)
