Chinese energy company PetroChina is currently developing two oil wells in the Sukowati oil field in Bojonegoro regency, East Java. It expects to be able to start production next month with a combined output of 6,000 barrels per day, Bisnis Indonesia daily reported on Tuesday.

PetroChina is the operator of the Joint Operating Body (JOB) of the Tuban oil block in the province, in partnership with state oil and gas firm PT Pertamina.

The paper quoted field manager of the JOB Victory S. Kirana as saying that the two oil wells, each can produce around 3,000 barrels of oil per day, were old wells suspended in 2001.

She said that the rising oil prices in the international market has pushed the JOB to reopen the oil wells.

"We're currently constructing a 10 km pipeline connecting the Sukowati wells to the central processing area in the Mudi field (of the Tuban Block)."

The JOB has been developing 19 wells in the Tuban block since 1998.(*)
