Petronas may quit Sumatra exploration block

Malaysian national oil company Petronas Carigali may quit its Lampung II exploration block in the eastern tip of Sumatra after it failed to make discovery in the block.

An official with upstream oil, gas authority BPMIGAS told Petromindo.com that the company may quit the block after drilling at Ruby Merah-1 which was conducted earlier this year failed discover significant hydrocarbon.

The block was awarded to Petronas in 2006. (bernard)
