Petronas Carigali Ketapang Ltd., a subsidiary of Malaysian firm Petronas, is re-constructing the platform for the Bukit Tua Development project in the Ketapang block of East Java, following a recent incident in which the firm failed to install the facility, according to a senior official of the upstream authority SKK Migas.
"The platform is being re-constructed. The work may take 1.5 months. Once completed, it will be re-installed. The re-installing work is expected to be completed in mid-December " SKK Migas Operation Deputy Muliawan told Petromindo.com.
The Bukit Tua field is projected to start flowing 20,000 bpd of oil and 70 mmscfd of gas in February 2015, according to Muliawan.
SKK Migas reported earlier an incident which forced Petronas to suspend the installing of the platform. The incident was caused by unstable soil condition at the site.
A Petromindo's source told that after an evaluation process to analyze the soil condition at the site, the company concluded it had to move the platform to a new location and replace the legs of the platform.
Ketapang offshore block is 80 percent owned and operated by Petronas and 20 percent by PT Saka Ketapang Perdana, a subsidiary of PT Saka Energi, the upstream unit of state owned gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN).
