Petronas to be involved in construction of West Java LNG terminal

Malaysian oil and gas giant Petronas will be invited to take part in the construction of state owned electricity company PLN's liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Cilegon, West Java, Kompas reported on Tuesday.

"We will be quite happy if Petronas is able to cooperate with PLN and other consortium to build the LNG terminal," PLN's director for power plants and prime energy, Herman Ibrahim said.

He said that the LNG terminal which will have a receiving capacity of 400 million cubic feet per day would be used to receive gas from gas fields in Java. The capacity will be gradually increased to 800 cubic feet per day.

The investment for the construction of the LNG terminal which is expected to start commercial operation between 2006 and 2007 will be reach about US$300 million.

According to him, PLN has received a permit from the government to build the LNG terminal during the first semester of this year. "But the construction has been delayed until now," he added. (*)
