Petronas to build 457 gas stations in Indonesia

Malaysian state oil firm Petronas is preparing to build 457 gas station in the islands of Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan until 2011, a government official told Petromindo.Com Tuesday.

Erie Soedarmo, Downstream and Refinery Director at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources that Petronas had submitted its plan to the government to build the gas stations. He did not give the investment figure.

Petronas is scheduled to commence its first gas station that sells unsubsidized fuel in the outskirt of Jakarta today (Tuesday).

Under the current oil and gas law Pertamina would loose its downstream monopoly this year. Other new downstream player Royal Dutch Shell had earlier opened first gas station near Jakarta and planned to build 400 more within 8 years. (godang)
