Petronas to build first gas stations outside Java in Medan

PT Petronas Niaga Indonesia, a subsidiary of Malaysia’s oil and gas firm Petronas, will build four gas stations in Medan, North Sumatra as part of its fuel retail business expansion program in Indonesia, Sindo Daily reported Tuesday.
Construction of the four gas stations is expected to be completed in August or September of this year.
“They want to build gas stations here (North Sumatra). On the first phase, they will build four gas stations in Medan,” said North Sumatra Governor Rudolf M. Pardede following a visit by PT Petronas Niaga Indonesia’s president director Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mhd Yunus in Medan on Monday.
North Sumatra provincial mining and energy office Washington Tambunan said that Petronas, in cooperation with a local private company, had also leased fuel storing tanks in Belawan port.
Last year, Petronas has opened three gas station in Jakarta and Bekasi.
The company plans to build 200 gas stations in Indonesia until 2011, Kamarulzaman M. Hasyim, president of Petronas Niaga Indonesia said in March 2006. (*)
