PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina (Persero), has now set a target for the commercial operation date (COD) of the unit 4 of the Ulubelu 55 MW geothermal power plant in Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province, to be reached in March, sooner than initially planned, according to a top official of the firm.
President Director of PGE Irfan Zaenuddin said to Petromindo.com on Monday that initially the COD of Ulubelu unit 4 was targeted to be reached in June 2017.
"But, by looking at the progress of the project that has now reached 97 percent, it is estimated the COD of Unit 4 will be reached in March 2017," Irfan said.
PGE has since July 15 operating the unit 3 of the Ulubelu 55 MW geothermal power plant, sooner than the August 6 schedule. The completion of the third unit of the Ulubelu geothermal power plant has increased the total capacity of the plant to 165 MW. The first and second units have been in operation since 2012.
Each of Unit 3 and 4 has a capacity of 55 MW. Once Unit 3 and 4 have been completed, the capacity of the power plant will rise to 220 MW. Both Unit 3 and 4 projects are worth US$397 million with financing provided by Pertamina and the World Bank.
