PGE completes drilling of 23 geothermal wells

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, has completed drilling of 23 geothermal wells to support the PLTP Ulubelu geothermal power plant Unit 3 and Unit 4, each with capacity of 55 MW, in Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province.
Pertamina said in a statement Friday that the 23 wells comprise of two exploration wells, and 21 development wells consisting of 15 production wells and six injection wells.
The Ulubelu Unit 3 started operation in July of last year, while the Unit 4 started operation in March of this year, three months ahead of the June target.
With the operation of the Ulubelu Unit 4, PGE?s installed geothermal generation capacity now accounts for 35 percent of the country?s total installed capacity of 1,600 MW, Pertamina said. PGE aims to further boost its capacity to 2,300 MW by 2025, or accounting for 32 percent of the planned 7,200 MW of geothermal installed capacity in the country as set under the National Energy Policy.
