PGE completes production test at Bukit Daun project, plans new drilling

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, said it had at the end of last month completed production test at the first exploration well, called BDNA/1 well, in the Bukit Daun geothermal working area, Bengkulu Province, and plans new drilling programs.

PGE Exploration and Development Director, Ali Mundakir said on Tuesday to Petromindo.com that based on the test, the BDNA/1 exploration well is estimated to have potential to generate 5-7 MW of electricity.

The Bukit Daun geothermal project is located in Bengkulu?s Lebong and Rejang Lebong regencies. PGE plans to develop a 3x30 MW geothermal power plant, which is targeted to start operation in 2021.

According to recent exploration survey, the Bukit Daun geothermal project holds resources potential of about 155 MW.

The Bukit Daun project was started in 2015. Drilling of the BDNA/1 exploration well was completed on February 22, 2017. Alil said PGE is currently drilling a second well called BDNB/1 well, which was spudded on April 2.

He said the company plans to spud the BDNC/1 well in early August. Exploration program in Bukit Daun has been planned to be completed in three years.
