PT Pertamina Geothermal Energi (PGE) has once again postponed the commercial operation date (COD) status of the unit 1 of the Karaha geothermal power plant (PLTP) project in West Java to December of this year.
PGE, a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, initially set a target for the power plant project to start operation in December of last year, but was postponed to March 2017, and then was postponed again to first semester of 2017.
?We continue to work to meet the COD target for the Karaha-1 in December 2017,? said PGE Corporate Secretary Tafif Azamudin to Petromnido.com on Thursday, but did not disclose the reason for the delay.
PGE President Director Irfan Zainuddin said in March that this year, the company has allocated investment worth US$398.9 million including for PLTP Karaha unit 1 and PLTP Ulubelu unit 4 in Lampung, which he said were expected to start operation in the first semester of this year. Once the two projects start operation, PGE?s installed power capacity will increase to 617 MW.
Irfan said that the company will continue to accelerate the development of its geothermal power plant projects. Since last year, the company has been carrying out in parallel seven geothermal power plant projects including Sungai Penuh (upstream project 1x55 MW) with COD target in 2020, Hululais (upstream project 2x55 MW) COD target in 2019 (unit 1) and in 2021 (unit 2), Ulubelu (total project 2x55 MW) COD for unit 3 was made in July 2016, and unit 4 set for COD in June of this year.
PGE is also currently developing a number of other geothermal power plant projects including Lumut Balai Unit 1&2 (total project 2x55 MW) with COD target in 2018 (unit 1) and in 2019 (unit 2), Lumut Balai Unit 3&4 (total project 2x55 MW) with COD target in 2022 (unit3) and in 2024 (unit 4), Karaha (total project 1x30 MW) with COD target in June 2017.
