PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) is exploring a cooperation possibility with Chevron Geothermal Indonesia Ltd in developing some of its geothermal working areas.

The potential cooperation was revealed following a meeting between the two companies last month, said PGE Corporate Secretary Adiatma Sardjito to petromindo.com, although he was quick to add that the discussion was still at an early stage.

During the meeting, Adiatma added, a total of 9 geothermal working areas were discussed, with Chevron ?seemingly interested in Hulu Lais and Sungai Penuh working areas.?

As for the type of the business cooperation, Adiatma stated that PGE is looking for an upgrade than the usually joint operating contract (JOC) scheme, where the partner operates and invests in the project while PGE receives a form of management fee.

?But, should cooperation materialize in the future, PGE wishes to actively involve in the operation. So we want to take part in operation and investment,? he said, without elaborating.

In the past, a similar cooperation between the two firms has been forged, such as in Salak and Derajat geothermal projects.

In addition to Chevron, PGE is also looking to cooperate with Energy Development Corporation (EDC) and Star Energy.
