PGE to drill 14 geothermal wells this year

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, plans to drill 14 geothermal wells this year to find new geothermal resources to support the planned operation of two new geothermal power plants, Kontan reported on Tuesday.
The paper quoted PGE Corporate Secretary Tafif Azzimudin as saying that the drilling program will be implemented at the company?s Karaha geothermal working area in West Java, and the Ulubelu geothermal working area in Lampung. ?PGE plans to drill 14 wells this year,? he said.
Tafif said PGE is expected to have additional of 85 MW of geothermal power plant capacity this year. He said that the Ulubelu unit 4 geothermal power plant with capacity of 55 MW is slated to start operation in June of this year, while the Karaha unit 4 geothermal power plant with capacity of 30 MW will also start operation this year.
He said that PGE currently operates 532 MW of geothermal power plants. The company has set a target that the total capacity operated by the company in 2021 will jump to 1,037 MW. (*)
