The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has assigned IDX-listed gas distribution firm PT PGN Tbk to operate the household gas distribution network in Tarakan, North Kalimantan, in a bid to help accelerate the process for households in the city to convert into using gas from kerosene.

Signing of the document for the transfer of the gas distribution network to PGN was made on Tuesday in conjunction with the Tarakan city 18th anniversary celebration.

The gas distribution network, which was built in 2010 and was previously operated by Tarakan administration-owned company PT Perusahaan Daerah Kota Tarakan, has now been connected with 3,366 households and receives gas allocation at a volume of 0.7 mmscfd from PT Medco EP Indonesia.

PGN is expected to install a total of 21,000 household connections in 2016.
