PGN begins construction of household gas networks in Lampung

IDX-listed gas distribution company PT PGN Tbk started on Thursday construction of household gas networks in Lampung Province with a groundbreaking ceremony held in Bandar Lampung.

The Directorate General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said in a statement that PGN will develop a combined 204.15 km pipelines in Lampung to distribute gas to a total of 10,321 households in eight districts including Teluk Betung Utara, Tanjung Karang Pusat, Tanjung Karang Barat, Kedaton, Labuhan Ratu, Way Halim, Tanjung Senang and Sukareme.

The ministry has assigned PGN to develop the project, funded by the state budget at a total cost of Rp 126 billion, which is targeted to be completed by the end of this year.

The gas supply will come JOB Pertamina-Talisman Jambi Merang, the statement said.

Aside from Lampung, PGN has also been assigned to build household gas networks this year in Musi Banyuasin, Jakarta, and Mojokerto to supply gas to a total of 26,000 households.

The ministry has assigned both state-controlled PGN and state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina to develop household gas networks since 2009 to distribute cheaper and cleaner energy to households in a bid to lessen the country?s dependency on imported LPG. As per last year, a total of 185,991 households in 24 regencies and mayoralties in 14 provinces have been linked with gas pipeline.
