PGN confirms pipeline leak, gas flow undisturbed

State gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) has confirmed a gas leakage from the SSWJ offshore transmission pipeline on the kilometer point (KP) 138-139 between Labuhan Maringgai and Muara Bekasi, around Damar island, West Java.
The gas leakage, which started on Tuesday, 21st May 2013, at 10.40 western Indonesian time (WIB), has been now put under supervision to mitigate any potential impacts. But it has not caused any disturbance of gas flow to PGN customers.
"So far, the gas to our customers still flows as normal. We?re preparing to conduct repair of the pipe leakage,? PGN Business Director Jobi Triananda told Petromindo.com in Jakarta on Thursday.
PGN announced on Wednesday night about the leakage of the pipeline. The leakage was confirmed after the company?s team inspected the location and made a checking in the location of gas leak. The leak occurred on the 32 inch pipe about 23 meter below sea surface.
Jobi noted that PGN has pursued an internal coordination to prevent and mitigate any potential impacts to the local sea transportation and people living around. ?We?ve informed the regulator, customers, and all sides concerned. We?ve been also pursuing preventive and mitigating efforts to prevent and mitigate impacts to sea transportation, fishermen, and our customers. We?ve reduce the pressures in the pipeline to mitigate any potential impacts around the location,? he said.
He said that by considering the condition of the leakage, and to minimize the impact to gas flow for customers, PGN has decided to fix it with the method of repair clamp. ?With the availability of supportive equipment and technical services, we expect that the pipeline will return to normal in the next few days,? he said.
According to him, the next step will be to appoint a third party which is professional to evaluate, make recommendations, and to implement any necessary repair needed to make the pipeline back to its normal condition.
?We need the support and cooperation of all stakeholders, so that the repair of the pipe leakage will be successful,? he said.
