PGN distributes gas to households in Tangerang

IDX-listed state owned gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk inaugurated on Thursday the operation of its distribution network to channel gas to the Perumnas II Karawaci housing complex in Kelapa Dua neighborhood, Karawaci district, Tangerang recency, Banten.

The inauguration of the pipeline was held in a ceremony attended by officials from PGN and Tangerang regency administration.

PGN said in a press release that including the new customers in the housing complex, the firm now has a total of 5,520 of household and commercial customers in Tangerang. Other housing complexes which have been supplied with gas from PGN are Cimone, Harapan Kita, Palem Semi and several others. These housing complexes have received gas from PGN since 1999. Aside from housing complex, the firm also supplies gas to small businesses such as restaurants in the area.

Amran Arifin, Speaker of the regency council (DPRD), appreciated the gas distribution, saying it will help households cut their fuel costs. He said each household pays an average Rp 40,000 in monthly fee to PGN for the gas supply, compared to the price of Rp 100,000 they have to pay for 12-kg LPG.

PGN?s Director of General Affairs and Human Resources Hendi Kusnadi said that at present PGN has installed 75.8 km of distribution pipeline to serve household and commercial customers in Tangerang.

He said the gas distribution to households in Tangerang is part of ?PGN Loves Mothers? movement which targets to distribute gas to 1 million households across the country starting this year. For this year, the firm has allocated a budget totaling US$200 million to develop distribution pipelines in various parts of the country.

Besides, this year, the firm will also build 16 natural gas stations (SPBG) and Mobile Refueling Unit (MRU) in Jakarta, Surabaya and Sukabumi
