Under the program, industries in the Tambak Aji industrial area and nearby households will receive gas via a pipeline linked to a CNG facility, said Director of Technique and Development of PGN Djoko Saputra on Tuesday. He added that estimated gas consumption in the particular cluster is about 710,000 cubic feet per day, which could potentially save energy cost by Rp 50 billion per year.
Djokowas quoted by Tempo.co as saying that Central Java is one of the provinces in the country where the fuel to gas conversion program has been delayed for more than eight months as the planned development of gas pipeline from Kalimantan to Java has yet to be realized. Instead of waiting for the completion of this pipeline, PGN initiates the CNG clustering program by bringing in the gas via a CNG mode transportation to Semarang, and distribute the gas through dedicated pipeline.
Under the CNG clustering program, about 5,150 meter-long pipeline will be developed, which will form part of the planned 224 km integrated gas pipeline in Central Java. (*)
