State-owned gas distribution company PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) started the operation of a gas Mobile Refueling Unit (MRU) around the area of Pluit dam in North Jakarta to support Jakarta?s Eco-City program.

PGN?s Corporate Communication Manager Ridha Ababil said in a press release on Wednesday that the MRU can serve up to 500 vehicles per day. The MRU will provide people with greater access to gas in the area. By using gas rather than oil fuels, people will help preserve the environment in Jakarta as gas is more firiendly to the environment than oil fuels.

He added that the mobilization of the MRU is also conducted in conjunction with the current meeting of the Asia Pacific mayors in Jakarta.

"The Asia Pacific Mayor forum should be an important starting point to accelerate the use of gas as a clean energy. PGN and the Jakarta administration will cooperate to increase the use of gas,? he said.

Currently, he said, in Jakarta PGN has more than 13,900 consumers, consisting of 13,608 households, 215 businesses, and 137 industries. PGN has also supplied gas to 14 gas refueling stations, and operates several own gas refueling stations and MRUs in Jakarta.

?Natural gas is a solution to reduce Indonesia?s dependence on oil fuels. It will support the government policy to save energy and generate economy,? he said.
