State-owned gas distributor Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) is repairing its pipelines in Belawan, North Sumatra which leaked Friday following the collapse of a bridge.
PGN's corporate secretary Widyatmiko Bapang said Saturday that the bridge collapsed when a trailer carrying heavy equipment owned by state electricity company PLN slipped off the bridge, causing a damage to PGN's pipeline.
The incident has cut off the gas supply to PLN and PGN's industrial customers near Medan for about eight hours. However, PGN said that it later managed to resume gas supply to the industrial companies after diverting supply from other section of the pipeline. But, it will take one week to resume gas supply to PLN.
Widyatmiko said that PGN might suffer a loss in potential revenue of up to Rp 130 million due to the damage, while the repair works would cost the company about Rp 100 million. (denny)
