PGN's pipeline in North Sumatra catches fire

A 18-inch pipeline owned by state owned gas distributor company PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) in North Sumatra, used to supply gas to the Sicanang combined cycle power plant in Belawan owned by state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) caught fire on Sunday.

PGN's President Director Soetikno told Petromindo.com on Monday that the incident occured at 6 p.m. but the firm could resume gas sppplies to the power plant at 7 p.m. using an 12-inch alternative pipeline.

PGN's Corporate Secretary Heri Yusup explained that the pipeline caught fire in a swamp area called Palu Hantu, far away from residential places.

"The causes of the incident are being investigated and the pipeline is being repaired. No fatalities occured due to the incident," he said. (godang)
