PGN starts developing Duri-Medan pipeline

State owned gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) said on Wednesday it has started developing a giant gas pipeline linking Duri in Riau to Medan in North Sumatra.

The pipeline will have a total length of 525 km, consisting of two parts, namely the Duri-Dumai segment measuring 130 km and the Dumai-Medan segment measuring 395 km, the firm said in a statement, without providing details.

The firm also said that on Wednesday, the firm?s President Director Hendi Prio Santoso signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Pekanbaru mayoralty at its headquarters in Jakarta to cooperate technically, financially and administratively in developing gas infrastructure in the Riau provincial capital so that people there can utilize gas as part of the national program of diversification from oil fuels.

In the statement, the firm also said it had completed the development of a 30.5 km distribution pipeline stretching from Cikande to Bitung in Banten province. The pipeline is connected to the existing distribution networks in West Java, Banten and Jakarta.

The firm has also completed the development of a gas distribution network measuring 90 km in Lampung. At end-January of this year, Minister Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said has also inaugurated the 18-km pipeline which has been built by the firm in Tanjung Uncang Panaran on Batam Island, Riau Archipelago province.
