State-controlled gas distribution firm PT PGN Tbk through its subsidiary PT Gagas Energi Indonesia has started supplying gas to industries on Madura Island, East Java Province.
PGN Corporate Secretary Rachmat Hutama said in a statement obtained Monday that Gagas since July has started supplying its Gaslink product to salt maker PT Garsindo Anugerah Sejahtera in Sumenep Regency, Madura Island.
Madura Island has been known as the center of salt industry in the country since the Colonial period.
Rachmat said aside from being a clean form of energy, the use of Gaslink will also help cut production cost of Garsindo, which has also used Gaslink at its first production plant in Gresik, East Java. The Sumenep plant is the company’s second plant to use Gaslink.
Rachmat said that going forward, Gagas will expand its gas supply in Madura.
