State owned gas company PGN will build a 71.2-kilometer pipeline in Musi Banyu Asin regency, South Sumatera as an extension of its 212.2-kilometer pipeline project which links the regency to Singapore through Jambi and Batam island, Sriwijaya Pos reported on Friday.

Project manager Triono Hendryanto said that the new pipeline project would pass at least 10 villages in the regency.

Speaking during a meeting with the local authority including the regent of the local regency administration, Triono said that without the support from the local residents it would be difficult to carry out the project.

He appealed the local residents during the meeting to support the project, which would help the economy of the regency but also help solve the unemployment problem.

Triono, however, did not unveil the details of the projects such as the financier and the main function of the pipeline. ?We will act only as a user of the pipeline and will receive a fee for the service,? he merely said.(*)
