PGN to expand gas distribution in Central Java

State gas distribution PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) has planned to increase its gas distribution in Central Java by building a 350 kilometer pipeline in three stages until 2019.
The distribution network, using 16? pipe, will be used to meet the need of customers ranging from industries, commercial clients (hotels, malls, restaurants), and households.
PGN said in a press statement on Friday that the first stage of the pipe development will be a 45 kilometer pipeline in Semarang and surrounding areas that is targeted to be completed in 2015.
The second and third stages will be expanded pipelines to serve clients in other big cities of Central Java, such as Solo, Kudus, Ungaran, Kendal, Pati, Batang and Pekalongan. It is expected to be completed during the period of 2017 and 2019.
PGN did not mention the total investment needed for the new pipeline development, saying that it still needed to conduct further survey to determine the development plan.
According to PGN, the gas need of potential customers in the big cities is more than 60 MMSCFD, which is big enough, considering that 1 MMSCFD is equivalent to 28 kiloliter of diesel fuel per day.
Alternative supply of gas in Central Java includes those from potential blocks, such as Cepu, and Kepodang.
