IDX-listed gas distribution company PT PGN Tbk said that it will soon complete construction of a gas transmission pipeline linking the West Natuna Transportation System (WNTS) and the Pemping Island, offshore Natuna, which will allow the company to distribute more gas particularly for the Batam Island in Riau Islands Province.
?The construction of the transmission pipeline infrastructure project from the Sub Sea Tie In-Batam point of WNTS to Pemping Island will provide benefit in terms of alternative gas supply for Riau Islands (Batam, Bintan, and Karimun),? said PGN Director of Infrastructure and Technology, Dilo Seno Widagdo in a statement on Thursday.
The government assigned PGN in July of last year to develop the project to allow for the utilization of gas from Natuna to meet domestic demand.
Dilo said that once the gas pipeline project has been completed, PGN will have additional gas supply of 40 bbtud for Batam Island. He said that the gas volume can be further multiplied to around 100 bbtud in the future to meet growing demand in Batam.
Dilo said that the greater gas supply combined with new pipeline facilities in Batam will help attract new industries and businesses to the island, turning Batam into a natural gas island city.
?Since 2004, we have kept on developing gas distribution networks in Batam. PGN distributes gas to industries, businesses, and households,? he said.
In Batam, PGN currently supplies gas to 3,497 households, 53 commercial customers, and 43 industries and power plants.
