The state-owned gas distribution company Perum Gas Negara (PGN) plans to start development of a US$850 million gas pipeline linking the Jambi province and West Java province, according to company president A. Qoyum Tjandranegara.

Qoyum was quoted as saying by the Sumatera Ekspress daily that the 85 percent of the project would be financed by a Japanese consortium while the remaining 15 percent by PGN.

He added that between 10-20 other domestic investors would also participate in the development including PT Citra Panji Manunggal and PT Krakatau Steel.

He said that the final check from Japan would be made on September 6. He added that the project was expected to be complete within two years.

Qoyum said that once the Jambi-West Java pipeline was completed, the company would start developing the East Kalimantan-West Java gas pipeline, which would involve European consortium. (*)
