IDX-listed gas distribution firm PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) on Monday (02/09) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Yogyakarta municipality on increasing utilization of natural gas in the city as well as support the city's smart city program.

Based on the MoU, PGN will provide infrastructure to support the utilization of natural gas in the city.

The MoU was signed by Yogyakarta Mayor Haryadi Suyuti and PGN's President Director Gigih Prakoso. Present on the occasion were PGN's management and officials of the Yogyakarta city government.

Gigih Prakoso said the collaboration with the Yogyakarta city government is part of PGN's long-term strategy to expand the utilization of natural gas in areas that have yet to receive natural gas.

Through cooperation, PGN hopes that more people and businesses can enjoy the benefits of using natural gas because it is an environmentally friendly, efficient and domestically produced energy.

Gigih said PGN will encourage hotels and restaurants in the city as well as small and medium enterprises to use natural gas in their daily operations as natural gas is more efficient and could provide a competitive edge.

To support the move, PGN will develop city gas pipeline network as well as provide compressed natural gas (CNG).

On a national scale, PGN is developing gas pipeline along 500 km, 528 km gas transmission pipeline, seven LNG filling stations for trucks and vessels, five FSRUs, 3.59 household city gas networks and LNG terminals.
