The PHE-40 offshore platform owned by Pertamina Hulu Energi West Madura Offshore (PHE-WMO) started drilling the first well since the oil rig was stopped from operation after being hit by a cargo ship in August, 2010.

The drilling has now reached 1,000 meters in depth, said Corporate Secretary Wahidin to petromindo.com on Saturday.

The drilling of the first well was witnessed by Pertamina?s director for upstream operation Muhammad Husen at the offshore oil production facility, some 70 miles off Bangkalan, East Java.

Before being hit by the cargo ship, the oil rig was producing crude oil of 1,600 barrels per day and gas of about 15 million standard cubic feet per day.
