PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, had recently carried out field works at the Tidung sub-basin in North Kalimantan as part of efforts to find new hydrocarbon potentials around the Simenggaris block.

Pertamina said in a statement that the Tidung sub-basin field work, implemented on August 17-September 3, is an extension of the results of the Tarakan 2015 regional study.

VP Exploration East Area & NCH PHE Budi Tamtomo said in the statement that the field work activity, which is part of the 2016 Tidung sub-basin paleo environment study, was carried out in four regencies in North Kalimantan including Nunukan, Malinau, Tana Tidung, and Bulungan.

The statement said that the PHE team has obtained surface geological data.

PHE Exploration Director Rudy Ryacudu expressed optimism that the field work activity can open up hydrocarbon potentials especially around the Simenggaris block, and generally in the Tarakan Basin, which will in turn provides new momentum to explore for new oil and gas areas in the Tarakan Basin.
