Upstream company PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, has engaged an independent team to help fix trouble at one of the platforms in the West Madura Offshore (WMO) block which tilted.

PHE President Director Gunung Sardjono told Petromindo.com on Tuesday that the independent team comprises of experts from the Bandung Institute of Technology (or ITB), and officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources as well as officials from the upstream oil and gas authority SKK Migas.

SKK Migas Deputy for Operation, Fatar Yani said to Petromindo.com that the authority has advised PHE to select one of two options in dealing with the platform trouble, either by strengthening the jacket or a second option of slashing the platform topside.

Gunung, however, said that the team has asked for more time of about one week to evaluate the two options as well as to also explore other options.

Gunung acknowledged that the platform trouble could delay potential oil production of 1,500-2,000 bpd. ?Starting August, three wells were supposed to have reached full production capacity,? he said.

PHE WMO has an 80 percent interest in the block. According to company website, PHE WMO operates 10 platforms on 98 wells.
