PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ) said that it has teamed up with local fishermen to help protect assets at its working area as part of community-based security strategy.
?In this case, the people help the company in protecting oil and gas facilities belonging to the state by actively reporting any efforts that can potentially undermine oil and gas facilities, operations, and the surrounding environment,? said PHE ONWJ Communication and Relations Manager Donna Priadi on Tuesday.
PHE ONWJ currently has 8,300 square kilometers of working area, operating a total of 218 offshore rigs and production facilities scattered in the waters of Thousand Islands and northern coastal area of Indramayu, West Java.
Donna said that in the past, stealing of assets such as pipes, valves, cables, and navigation lights were quite rampant, reaching up to 100 cases, and causing millions of dollars of losses. But since 2010, the problem has been relatively eliminated. ?Several attempts to steal assets had been foiled after the company obtained reports from the fishermen,? Donna said.
