PT Pertamina Hulu Energy Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ), a subsidiary of state owned oil and gas PT Pertamina (Persero), has submitted a request to upstream authority SKK Migas for an extension of the contract on gas supply from the ONWJ block to two power plants owned PT PLN in Jakarta.

?Because PLN still needs more gas supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Tanjung Priok, we have proposed to SKK Migas (upstream authority) an extension of the contract on gas supply from ONWJ block," Executive Vice President /General Manager for PHE ONWJ Jonly Sinulingga told Petromindo.com.

He added that the contract can be extended until the depletion of the block?s reserves, but he did not say the volume of gas in details.

PLN earlier said that supply of gas from the ONWJ block to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Tanjung Priok, both in North Jakarta will end in April 2015 and there isn?t yet any substitute for the gas. As a matter of fact, the contract between PHE ONWJ and PLN will be still valid through 2017 but PLN has taken more gas than the volume set in the contract.

Under the contract, the supply volume is set at 100 mmscfd. However, PLN has always taken 120-130 mmscfd, even sometimes up to 150 mmscfd. PLN thus estimated that by volume, the contract will end in April 2015.
