PHE prepares to drill Karunia IX exploration well

Upstream company PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, is currently making preparations to drill the Karunia 1X exploration well, in Abar block, offshore West Java.
?We?re currently making preparations to drill Karunia 1X exploration well,? said General Manager of PHE Abar, Theodorus Duma in a statement Wednesday, but did not specifically said when the drilling program will start.
He said that as Karunia 1X well is located near the ONWJ block, any finding of economical hydrocarbon reserves can lead to immediate commercialization of the block by using the production facility at ONWJ. ?We?ll focus on that first, then move to other prospects including finding new play concept, such as deep target,? Theodorus said.
He added that the drilling of the Karunia 1X exploration well forms part of the company?s commitments since it acquired the Abar block in May of 2015.
